How Dig Dig got its name started with my first grandson, Clark.
Clark was a COVID baby, and like a lot of kids his age, he was a little behind socially. He didn’t say much. But one thing was clear — he loved construction. Excavators especially.
Whenever Clark saw one — on a jobsite, in a book, or as a toy — his face would light up. He had one word for it. Actually, two.
“Dig dig!”
That was his thing. Simple. Joyful. Full of meaning.
Spending time with Clark, playing and watching him light up over something so basic and hands-on, stuck with me. It reminded me how powerful real play can be — the kind that doesn’t need screens, flashing lights or complicated instructions. Just movement, imagination, and a little sand.
That small moment became the beginning and how Dig Dig got its name.
